About Us
The Inspiration
The Ramanujan Oxbridge Challenge is inspired by the extraordinary life and mathematical legacy of Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Born in India in 1887, Ramanujan developed an extraordinary passion for mathematics largely through independent study. With limited formal training, he produced remarkable mathematical results that eventually brought him to Cambridge, where he worked alongside G. H. Hardy and made lasting contributions to number theory and mathematical analysis.
TROC carries this spirit forward by challenging students to think deeply, explore unfamiliar problems and discover the possibilities within their own mathematical ability.
Ramanujan’s story is not simply about reaching Cambridge. It is about having the curiosity to begin the journey.
Aim & Objective
The aim of The Ramanujan Oxbridge Challenge (TROC) is to provide students with an opportunity to develop and demonstrate their mathematical problem-solving, logical reasoning, and critical-thinking skills through challenging mathematical problems inspired by the spirit of Srinivasa Ramanujan.
The challenge aims to encourage students to approach unfamiliar problems creatively, apply mathematical concepts in unfamiliar contexts, and develop structured approaches to solving complex problems. It is designed to promote curiosity, perseverance, and independent mathematical thinking rather than focusing solely on the application of standard methods.
Objectives
- To encourage students to explore mathematics beyond the standard school curriculum.
To develop logical reasoning, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
To challenge students with unfamiliar and intellectually stimulating mathematical problems.
To promote creativity and independent thinking when approaching mathematical problems.
To identify and encourage students with a strong interest and aptitude in mathematics.
To build students’ confidence and perseverance when tackling challenging problems.
To foster a wider appreciation of mathematics and its applications.
To provide students with an opportunity to benchmark their mathematical abilities in a challenging competitive environment.
Enrol Now!
Registration for the Ramanujan Oxbridge Challenge is completed via PayPal. When making a payment, parents or carers must enter the student’s last name and year of birth in the PayPal reference field so that the payment can be correctly identified. After completing the payment, a screenshot of the PayPal confirmation and a copy of the bank statement should be retained in case of any technical or administrative issues. This will help us resolve any queries quickly and ensure the student’s enrolment is successfully recorded.
